Regarded by many as the best of the Charlie Chan series. The opera star Gravelle suffers amnesia. He is a recent escapee from an insane asylum, accused of murdering fellow performers (his wife and her lover) and as usual Chan is brought in and has to work with the police and his Number One son (Keye Luke) to solve the case. But is Gravelle really the killer? Or is there something far more sinister going on... Included in the movie is the opera ''Carnival'', composed for the picture by Oscar Levant.
